Having had a hectic month or two with a lot of weekends away, planning a big holiday (that’s now only four weeks away with a lot of planning left to do!) progress has been slow but eventually I finished the dry run fitting, re-fitting, fettling and final fitting before taking everything apart for the final assembly, this time with lashings of grease per the manual.

Now I have something that’s starting to look like it might be a car at last. Fitted are:

  • Both pairs of lower wishbones complete with polyurethane bushes from Superflex
  • Both lower wishbone bracing plates, powder coated black
  • Both front springs with upper & lower mounts sprayed black
  • Both upper pivot bars
  • Upper wishbones with balljoints
  • Left and right steering knuckles and stub axles
  • Steering rack

Left to complete is setting the height of the steering rack using spacers per the manual and then attaching both track-rod ends to the steering knuckles. Once that’s done I can actually think about putting the front  hubs on and maybe even some wheels (assuming I can get a set of build wheels or get my set back that I lent out a couple of years ago)

I also gave the rear A-arm mounting point some attention – the powder coat was starting to bubble indicating rust underneath so I scraped everything loose off, ran a tap through the threaded holes, installed some temporary bolts and sprayed the part up with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. In fact, it’s about time I went out and gave it a second coat..
