Not quite three years pass by and what do I have to show for it? Not quite three years pass by and what do I have to show for it? Not a lot, unfortunately, is the answer to that! However, after a life induced hiatus I’m back in the garage (and the shed) and slowly starting to make progress again. The first thing to do was send the front… Read More
Ah, the perils of old bolts and odd corrosion.. With the assistance of my better half’s father over the weekend, some more progress has been made on stripping the hubs down to a point they can go off to Wards for refurbishing. We pulled the bearing races off the front stub axles and the backing plates off the hubs – I think we’ll be… Read More
I finally bit the bullet and shot myself in the foot.. Being someone who is somewhat averse to speaking on the phone, I finally choked up the balls to call Ed Wards at Ward Engineering on Friday to enquire as to the price of the bits I need to completely refurbish the front & rear hub carriers, hubs and handbrake mechanism – ignoring the brake callipers,… Read More
Aaron 1 – Rear hubs 0 On the suggestion of a post over on www.cobraclub.com I decided that it would be a good idea to strip the rear hubs down to component parts (as far as easily possible, anyway) to make posting easier – largely so that the slightly butchered rear disc splash shields could come off as they’ll make everything… Read More
Progress at last.. Somewhat frustrated with my lack of progress so far my better half has decided that this years birthday present can be getting the hub carriers & hubs refurbished by Wards or John Gordon; so to that end I thought I’d better see what needed to be stripped off prior to sending them away. One part… Read More
Success! Last of the bits .. in bits. That’s it – I finally succeeded in stripping off all the bits I need and putting them into a big pile. Now, more or less, the Jag can go off to the crusher – although a friend of mine wants to come over at the weekend and pull the engine & box, so.. not quite… Read More
More progress.. I know, an update every day. What’s going on? Another afternoon in the garage today and I managed to get the rear end broken down almost all the way – I was stopped by, yet again, the large pivot bolts. This time it’s the ones that go through the rear wishbones and attach them to… Read More
I would not give in! Ah-ha! Success! I was able to drill the remains of the bolt out of the front wishbone using various sizes of drill bit and then, when only the thinnest of slivers of bolt remained on one side, drive a small screwdriver down and ‘peel’ the remains of the bolt off the inside of the hole.… Read More
A pile of rusty parts.. Well, it’s finally happened – all the parts I actually need off the Jag are off the Jag and sitting in the garage in a heap organised pile. Took a while as the last lower wishbone wanted to put up a proper fight with me – in the end it took the purchase of an air… Read More
More progress on the Jag.. After a long day in the garage on my own followed by another long day with the a couple of friends it finally feels like we’re getting somewhere stripping the Jag. In fact the only parts left to remove that I actually need are the front lower wishbones .. which I can’t get the pivot bolts… Read More
