Although not literally ‘joined’ because I’m nowhere near far enough along to actually mount the body on the chassis yet – in fact I still haven’t refurbished most of the running gear (I really need to get on that!) – but I decided I really wanted all of the Dax-specific stuff sitting there in the garage ready for when I need it so that there are no (or fewer) delays later on in the process.

So one phone call to Andrew at Dax and I’d ordered;

  • Body with big block modifications
  • Nut, bolt & rivet kit for the body
  • Steering column extension
  • Steering column modification
  • Handbrake cables
  • Stainless steel stoneguards

Right now, sitting in the garage, I have everything bar the handbrake cables and steering column extension (and obviously the modified steering column, as my column has had to go back to Dax for that to be done). Not only that but the whole lot turned up within a week of ordering – not bad, Dax, not bad at all.

After lifting quite the heaviest piece of fibreglass I’ve ever picked up (by gods, I didn’t expect it to weigh that much! It’s a difficult lift with three people..) the first thing I did was try the Exige high back seats. Which … don’t quite fit. With the runners on they are far too big to fit properly – or at least low enough – and without the runners they are a better fit but will still require some serious modification and custom runners.

So given all that, I think I’ll be placing an order for a set of Dax high back fibreglass seat buckets and runners, oh and the dashboard panel I forgot to order.. that way I can mock up seats etc and at least see how it’s all meant to fit together while I get the Jag running gear refurbed.
