With the assistance of my better half’s father over the weekend, some more progress has been made on stripping the hubs down to a point they can go off to Wards for refurbishing.

We pulled the bearing races off the front stub axles and the backing plates off the hubs – I think we’ll be discarding the splash guards at least, but possibly keep the ABS guard, though the ABS will have been discarded as well.front hubs

 

The rear hubs decided to put up more of a fight when it came to removing the splash guards – it seemed like it would be a simple case of pulling four bolts and they’d fall off. The first gave up with very little fight after application of a sufficiently long breaker bar, but the second decided that one of the bolts would expire in dramatic fashion:

odd corrosionAnd finally, I received a few lessons in how to use my Myford ML7 lathe – that was a great deal of fun and a good learning experience as my better half’s father is a machinist and technician by trade..

    …my house is now sold so I shall be moving (I hope) before long. I will re-start the crendon project this w/e, time for you to do the same young man. Or shall I liaise with your Mrs to set up the DeDion Building BBQ party? end of July suit?
